Transformed Bay Path Vocational Technical High School Celebrates New Addition

CHARLTON, MA – School district leaders and students, along with local legislative and state officials,  joined Consigli Construction Co., Inc. (Consigli) and project team members on September 25th to celebrate the ribbon-cutting for a 50,000 square-foot building addition, marking the completion of the first phase of Bay Path Vocational Technical High School’s state-of-the-art expansion.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrates a significant component of the environmentally friendly, multi-phased $73.8 million addition and renovation project. The transformative two-story addition incorporates seven, leading-edge 1,440-square-foot laboratories, as well as two teacher prep stations and a modern library and media center. The two-story addition also features an area for the public which includes a Southbridge Credit Union branch, a student-run hair salon, school store, and 120-seat restaurant and bakery/café.

When the new addition—which was ready when students returned on August 28th—opened its doors, Superintendent-Director John Lafleche praised the team, “This is a happy day. We’re very proud of the fact that we got this through to open on this day.”

Construction for the project began in the summer 2013 and full completion is scheduled for October 2015. Construction manager, Consigli, and architect, Kaestle Boos Associates, continue the next phase of the project which includes major renovations to the existing 198,000 square feet of the 44-year old facility.

Serving 1,100 students grades 9-12, and located in Charlton, Bay Path provides 21 vocational programs to students from its ten member towns in Southern Worcester County.
