Project Overview

  • Working adjacent to the occupied Kennebec County Courthouse
  • Incorporating state-of-the-art audio/visual, building security and access control systems technology while providing flexibility for future changes
  • Construction of a highly complex façade integrating multiple challenging materials and two types of curtain wall

The Maine Judicial Branch required a new state-of-the-art courthouse facility for its Superior and District Courts in Augusta, Maine. The new building accommodates jury, non-jury, and family matter courtrooms and provides consolidated Court Clerk, Administrative Office of the Court spaces and separated secured and public parking. Work was managed within the confined site and in close proximity to the occupied Kennebec County Courthouse.

The new, five-story courthouse facility utilizes chilled beam and advanced HVAC systems. It is constructed with a highly complex façade consisting of brick, three types of precast concrete veneer, structural concrete, zinc and aluminum panels, Petrarch panels and two kinds of curtain wall. Our team self-performed cast-in-place concrete, Petrarch panels and specialties. The project is targeting LEED Gold Certification.
