Bowdoin College

Project: Chapel Towers Restoration
Location: Brunswick, ME
Architect: Simpson Gumpertz & Hegar, Inc.

Weather and age took a toll on Bowdoin College’s 150-year old Chapel Towers, originally designed by noted 19th century architect, Richard Upjohn.  In order to preserve this treasured piece of Bowdoin’s history, Consigli dismantled, restored, and rebuilt the two towers stone-by-stone.

  • Faced with dismantling and rebuilding two 150-year old towers, stone-by-stone
  • Sourced authentic stone to match the original façade, including 20-30% of the granite from the same local quarry that supplied the materials for the original tower construction
  • All work completed on a fully occupied, active campus
