Project: Travelers Tower Landmark Restoration
Location: Hartford, CT
Architect: Perkins Eastman Architects, P.C.
Originally constructed in 1907, the landmark neo-classical 34-story Travelers Tower was once the tallest building in New England and is currently the Hartford location of Travelers. Following an exterior assessment of the building, it was determined that the envelope required extensive restoration and a comprehensive replacement of all windows.
- Complex logistics planning was required to accommodate phased work to occupied spaces on a heavily trafficked, tight urban site.
- Scope of work includes repair, conservation, restoration and/or replacement of the masonry facade; waterproofing; roof and window replacement; cast iron window surrounds and copper cornice restoration; and renovation of the balconies.
- The comprehensive 230,000 sq. ft. renovation includes replacement of all 1,200 of the building’s windows on 34 stories.
