Wellesley College

Project: Multiple Building Envelope Restorations
Location: Wellesley, MA
Architect: Menders, Torrey and Spencer, Inc.

Within the hilly wooded 500-acre landscape of Wellesley College’s campus, seven historic buildings built between 1892 – 1935 required building envelope restorations spanning a broad range of cladding types, including brick, glass, stone and metal.

  • An extensive pre-construction investigation confirmed the full extent of the scope of work and prioritized the work to meet the budget and the three-month summer schedule.
  • Restoration of complex historic details included exterior masonry repairs and replacement of roofing systems, copper gutter and downspouts, as well as interior restoration of areas damaged by envelope infiltration.
  • Buildings varied in usage and included a library, arts center, science center, classrooms and a sports center.
