Winner of the 2011 Maine Preservation Honor Award for Historic Renovation, this restoration and 9,900 sq. ft. state-of-the-art addition to the Maine Historical Society’s Research Library exemplifies excellence in historic restoration on Maine landmark sites.

  • Featuring a striking Kawneer curtain wall, the addition provides new temperature- and humidity-controlled, high-density storage space to house collections while allowing room for future expansion.
  • Renovations included upgrades to all mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems, as well as fire protection and ADA-compliance upgrades.
  • Along the side of the building, the historic Longfellow Garden was deconstructed and recreated from historic drawings and photographs.
