Phillips Exeter Academy
Project: Music Hall Addition
Location: Exeter, NH
Architect: William Rawn Associates
To accommodate Phillips Exeter’s vibrant music program that has rapidly outgrown its existing space, the Academy has elected to create a new, 12,000 sq. ft. addition to its Forrestal-Bowld Music Center. With more than 50 percent of Phillips Exeter’s students participating in music lessons and one quarter performing at the annual holiday concert, the new space will be built to accommodate the current and future needs of this student body’s interest in the arts.
The striking curtain wall-faced addition will house a 250-seat recital and rehearsal hall, Harkness classroom, a music media and technology center, practice rooms and a musicianship studio.
- Achieving acoustical requirements of a high-end performance venue
- Performing invasive construction adjacent to the operational Forrestal-Bowld Music Center, in the heart of the occupied Phillips Exeter campus
- Detailed coordination required for curtain wall system and tie-in to the existing structure
