Project Overview

  • Restoring an iconic brownstone mansion, stone by stone
  • Sourcing authentic stones from the original quarry
  • Carefully working around a National Historic Landmark

Victoria Mansion, a National Historic Landmark in Portland, Maine, underwent a complete renovation of its striking brownstone tower. The project involved the complete removal of all brownstone on the tower, with the exception of the decorative quoins, which were preserved in place.

Approximately 325 stones were removed from the building, with roughly 80% (260 stones) replicated to match the color and texture of the original. The replacement stones were sourced from the same quarry as the original stones in Portland, Maine.
