Consigli Awarded SPiRiT Naval Training Pool Project
Fast-track project at Naval Station Newport includes new pool and facilities

Milford , MA – January 14, 2008 – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has been awarded the construction contract for a new SPiRiT (Sustainable Project Rating Tool)-certified indoor training pool and building at the U.S. Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. Partnering with SMRT, a full-service architecture firm, the design/build project will break ground in March of 2008.

In its first project with the U.S. Navy, Consigli will build a completely new indoor training pool, replacing a 50-year old existing structure. Consigli will enclose the pool within a pre-engineered building, which includes unique features such as load-bearing walls running the length of the building, as opposed to a conventional column design. This eliminates the need for large concrete column footings and cross-ties required in a typical pre-engineered building. Consigli will also build and fit-out men’s and women’s locker rooms, as well as ample storage areas.

Expected to be occupied by October of 2008, the fast-track project is targeting SPiRiT bronze certification, the U.S. Army’s version of LEED. Previously, the team of Consigli and SMRT worked at the Skowhegan Readiness Center in Skowhegan, Maine, on a project which was SPiRiT Gold certified.
