Consigli Awarded $46M Science Building Project at West Point
Conversion of existing library will create cutting-edge science facility for U.S. Military Academy

Milford, MA – December 23, 2009 – Consigli Construction Co., Inc. has been awarded the renovation of Building 757 at the United States Military Academy in West Point, New York. The $46M project consists of a gut renovation of the existing library to create a state-of-the-art science center.

Taking place on an active campus, the two-year project will convert the 112,000 sq. ft. historic building into a modern facility to accommodate the growing chemistry and physics departments. The team of Consigli and architect URS Corporation will take care to preserve the historic fabric of the building, which includes protecting stained glass windows, wainscoting, marble and bookcases for re-use. As part of the construction program, the team will institute a comprehensive safety monitoring and reporting metrics, and perform construction waste recycling and materials reuse.

The team developed plans for creating a continuous slab to replace the existing footings as part of an overall seismic upgrade. Additional enhancements include interior foundation walls and collector beams that will extend from the footings to the roof and blast-resistant windows in front of the historic stained glass windows.
