Consigli completed the new Education Center at the University of Maine at Farmington during the summer of 2005. The 43,000 sq. ft. facility will be unique in Maine and have the technology for the future.

The building includes: The Curriculum Resource Center; 6 special classrooms (Art, Music, Literacy, Independent Living Center/Nutrition, Interactive Television connection to public schools); 3 all-purpose classrooms, each with 24-36 seats; 8 special project/student group work rooms; and space for the UMF Ski Industries Program, including Ski Research, Rehabilitation, and Design Lab.

The new Education Center also houses: The Western Maine Partnership; Everyone's Resource Depot; Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning, including the Coordinator for Educational Outreach; Faculty and department offices; and four conference rooms.

While striving to earn Silver LEED certification the facility includes these leading edge green technologies:

  • A geo-thermal heating and air conditioning system that will save more than 40% in energy cost
  • Significant reductions in use of energy for interior lighting through daylight harvesting technique
  • Window glazing to decrease heat loss in the winter and reduce cool air loss in the summer
  • Use of construction materials with recycled content
  • Specification of new construction materials with an eye to recycling options in the future
  • Specification of interior materials and furnishings that do not emit indoor pollutants
