| The Togus VAMC is a 67-operating bed facility with general medical, surgical, intermediate and mental health beds, as well as a 100-bed Nursing Home consisting of 50 Skilled and Longer Stay beds, and a 50-bed Dementia Unit. One of the oldest veterans' facilities in the country, having opened in the fall of 1866, Togus is located approximately four miles east of Augusta, the state capital. The Togus campus encompasses 500+ acres of buildings and natural woodlands serving as natural habitats for some of Maine's wildlife.
Consigli was recently selected for this 10,000 SF phased renovation within the occupied and operational Togus VA Hospital. Phase 1 consisted of the fit-out of a sixth floor shell space to accept physician offices and medical exam rooms. Third floor occupants were relocated to the completed sixth floor after Phase 1 completion. Phase 2 spaces on the third floor were demolished and rebuilt to provide the new Ambulatory Surgery Wing. Spaces included within this Phase 2 included Endoscopy, Bronchoscopy, Pulmonary, and Recovery Rooms.
Project challenges included demolition debris removal, material handling into and within the hospital, plumbing, mechanical, and electrical tie-ins within the occupied hospital.
