Working in collaboration with engineer/architect CBI Consulting, Inc, Consigli performed statue replication, bronze restoration, and granite restoration work. The project was completed in two months.
The existing statues had suffered from years of pollution and acid rain. Since this condition would only worsen over time, it was determined that they should be replaced with replications constructed of GFRP (glass fiber reinforced plastic). The new GFRP statues were installed with pins in their bases while the original statues were placed in storage where they will stay until they are placed in a museum.
The bronze work on the mausoleum surrounds the sarcophagus, which consists of decorative screens in between the outside columns and interior panels on the walls and ceiling. The bronze pieces were removed and cleaned, a new patina applied, and then coated with an Incralac coating. The pieces were subsequently reinstalled and given a coat of wax.
The granite restoration was self-performed by Consigli, and entailed resetting the granite stair rail stones, repairing lead joints, and repairing and cleaning the granite.
