South Shore Hospital
Project: Emerson Building
Location: Weymouth, MA
Architect: Cannon Design
The largest independently operated hospital in Eastern Massachusetts, South Shore Hospital decided to meet growing community needs with a 66,000 sq. ft. renovation and vertical addition to its continually operating Emerson Building, a central artery of its campus.
- Work at the fully occupied building includes a two-story vertical expansion; raising the existing bank of four elevators up two floors; performing a 30-foot southward wing expansion; removing and replacing the structure’s exterior skin; and renovation and remodeling of additional areas throughout the building.
- Project scope involves managing critical systems shut downs and construction of temporary partitions to perform work during daytime hours.
- The project is pursuing multiple sustainability goals as outlined by the LEED Guidelines for Healthcare.
