St. Paul’s School
Project: Coit Hall
Location: Concord, NH
Architect: Building Conservation Associates, Inc.
Renovation and refurbishment of Coit Hall, one of this coeducational boarding school’s 18 residence halls, was handled in multiple phases over several summers, and involved blending sensitive restoration with energy efficiency measures.
- Restoration of the 19th-century Gothic campus building entailed installation of energy-efficient windows, copper flashings, a slate roof, water shields on sheathing and replacement of deteriorated wood elements.
- Work included rebuilding the steam plant chimney with a new CMU backup wall, chimney flue liner, anchor installation, cast stone pieces, lightning protection, copper flashings and a new brick veneer.
- Complex masonry restoration work required repointing, chemical cleaning and brick rebuilding.
