Project: Vogelstein Center for Drama and Film
Location: Poughkeepsie, NY
Architect: Pelli Clarke Pelli Architects
Vassar College, with one of the top drama and film programs in the country, was faced with an outdated facility that did not provide the first-rate program areas required to support and enhance these prestigious departments. Their solution was to transform the original 140-year old red brick structure into a stunning new campus building designed by an internationally-renowned architectural firm.
- Integration of modern addition into the existing historic façade, all within an active major campus
- Scope included total interior rebuild to accommodate program areas including classrooms and seminar rooms, a studio/theater classroom, a design room, costume shops, dressing room, a large scene shop, multiple storage areas, extensive film facilities, and 330-seat Martel Theater
- North side of the structure opens up to the Frances Daly Fergusson Quadrangle, which has been used for outdoor productions, concerts, and other campus events
