The opening of the newest and largest museum in the state of Maine, built by Consigli and designed by Frederick Fisher and Partners, was featured in Design New England. The $15 million, 26,000 square-foot addition to Colby College’s Museum of Art houses 500 works of art, worth nearly $100 million. This new addition has created “the best academic museum in the country”, according to Colby College President, William D. Adams.
The new Alfond-Lunder Family Pavilion, clad in a unique glass curtain wall system, is LEED Silver certified by the U.S. Green Building Council and provides space for exhibitions, studios, classrooms, art storage and offices. Peter Lunder, the philanthropist whose bequest made the museum’s expansion possible, said he hoped it will one day become “a destination, the Clark Art Institute of Maine” – another museum building that Consigli has renovated.
