Project Overview
- New state-of-the-art facility hosting the latest technology in ice management to support a National Hockey League (NHL) standard rink
- Fast-track construction supported by extensive pre-construction planning and early bid packages to ensure completion by January 2023 puck-drop
- 16,000 yards of rock blasted to support new construction on hard-rock site
As part of a multi-year building and expansion program for significant growth and national status at the institution, Sacred Heart University embarked on a state-of-the-art multi-purpose arena serving students and faculty, as well as the larger surrounding community.
The arena is home to the University’s NCAA Division I hockey programs, the nationally ranked figure skating team and the club ice hockey teams. Supported by the latest technology in ice management, the arena houses world-class strength and training areas, team locker rooms and lounges, a sports medicine and hydrotherapy suite, a Pro Shop and a rapid shot puck room. A practical learning laboratory enhances educational opportunities for various disciplines, including sports communication and media, hospitality, sports management and marketing.
The hard-rock site was blasted to make way for the new facility, making way for complex underground utilities including M/E/P and ice systems necessary for supporting an arena of this caliber. Advanced VDC technology supported extensive coordination of underground systems to ensure proper installation.
