When Hackley School’s Old Oak, a century-old campus landmark, was damaged during Tropical Storm Isaias, the school saw an opportunity to carry its legacy forward. During construction of the Allen Center for the Creative Arts and Technology, Consigli partnered with the school to keep the Old Oak’s wood part of daily campus life.

Working closely with Hackley leadership, Consigli and its Mill Shop team transformed the salvaged wood into a series of custom pieces for use across campus. The reclaimed material carried natural imperfections shaped by age and storm damage. Consigli’s self-perform craftsmen carefully evaluated each piece, adapting designs to make the most of the material while preserving its unique character. Using traditional woodworking techniques and detailed shop drawings, the wood was thoughtfully crafted for its new purpose.

The result is a collection of handcrafted furnishings—a Head of School desk, conference table, theater podium and benches for each school division—that extend the life of the Old Oak in a tangible way, ensuring the tree’s presence at the Hackley School for years to come.
