KIPP Academy Boston

Project: K-8 Charter School
Location: Mattapan, MA
Architect: Arrowstreet, Inc.

KIPP Academy, a system of national, college preparatory charter schools, selected the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan for its new elementary and middle school. Site challenges included the demolition of an old factory and several residential structures, which was completed prior to the start of construction. The project also involved managing utility and drive lane upgrades to accommodate the new school and the adjacent neighborhood’s needs.

The new, four-story academy is 53,000 sq. ft., and incorporates a pre-engineered gymnasium, educational and administrative space for 650 students and over 80 staff members. Exterior upgrades includes new parking, student drop-off and circulation roadways for parents and buses, and an outdoor play area. The project was built to LEED Silver certification standards.
