Project Overview

  • Coordinated major demolition and utility upgrades in a congested urban neighborhood
  • Performed crane work and extensive support of excavation measures in close proximity to an adjacent MBTA Commuter Rail Line
  • Identified schedule and budget options to ensure the greatest value for the client’s budget

KIPP Academy, a system of national, college preparatory charter schools, selected the Boston neighborhood of Mattapan as the site for its new elementary and middle school. Site challenges included the demolition of an old factory and several residential structures, which was completed prior to the start of construction. In addition, we managed utility and drive lane upgrades to accommodate the new school and the adjacent neighborhood’s needs.

The new, four-story facility tops 53,000 sq. ft., with an attached pre-engineered gymnasium, and includes educational and administrative space for 650 students and over 80 staff members. Exterior scope included new parking; student drop-off and circulation roadways for parents and buses; and an outdoor play area. The project is targeting LEED Silver certification.
