Project Overview
- High-profile performing arts center in downtown Durham
- Coordination efforts with other GCs and ongoing construction activities in the building
- Modernization of back-of-house areas with modern finishes and ensuring ADA compliance for enhanced accessibility
The Durham Performing Arts Center (DPAC), a key cultural hub in the RDU area, recognized the need to modernize the star dressing rooms, which had become outdated. This renovation project refreshed these spaces to meet contemporary standards and enhance the experience for visiting performers.
The scope of work included renovating the star dressing rooms, common restrooms, and the green room. The upgrades feature new ceilings, flooring, mirrors, lighting, tile, and plumbing fixtures. Since this renovation occurred alongside other ongoing construction activities, meticulous planning and execution were crucial to ensure successful coordination efforts. The team also had to work around existing artwork and artist autographs that cover the walls of the back of the house, ensuring that all artwork remained untouched.
This renovation required careful coordination with DPAC, the architect, trade partners, and other general contractors in the building, to deliver the project within the client’s fixed budget. By providing value engineering and constructability reviews, the team ensured the project was completed within the budget without compromising quality.
