Project Overview

  • Executing needed ADA code upgrades and building systems improvements while the boathouse remained open and operational
  • Site was subject to multiple permitting jurisdictions including City of Boston, Department of Conservation and Recreation and Chapter 91, the Massachusetts Public Waterfront Act
  • Achieving the full scope of work within the established budget

The Henderson Boathouse, serving Northeastern’s Division I Women’s and Men’s Rowing Programs along with a variety of recreational programming, required accessibility upgrades, HVAC improvements and renovations to locker rooms, coach’s offices and team rooms to better serve their campus community. The scope to improve facility accessibility included new hardscaping and a new dock/boat launch.

Our team provided pre-construction and construction management services to the Department of Athletics, beginning with determining the full scope of work that was feasible within their established budget. With the boathouse located on the bank of the Charles River, the team had to confirm the permitting requirements of this waterfront site prior to the start of construction. All upgrades were carefully phased around the active boathouse facility. Our team self-performed concrete and doors, frames and hardware.
