Project Highlights

  • Collaborative design-build project to maximize space planning and building systems design in a busy campus environment
  • Design, procurement and installation of cost and time-saving pre-engineered metal building (PEMB)
  • New construction immediately adjacent to occupied existing campus buildings and along a heavily trafficked campus corridor

To expand and improve its fitness, recreation and athletics offerings on campus, Skidmore College has selected the design-build team of Consigli and CannonDesign to envision and execute a new tennis and wellness center. The new center will bring together all aspects of student health and wellness support — including mental health and counseling; health promotion and education; physical fitness; and wellness across the mind, body, and spirit — in a holistic approach to student health within a single complex on Skidmore’s campus.

The enabling phase of this project will encompass the installation of new site drainage, including underground stormwater retention and removing the pre-existing outdoor tennis courts and on-site daycare center. The project includes the addition of four indoor tennis courts with multi-use surfaces, eight outdoor tennis courts allowing them to be used for various athletics activities, locker rooms, administrative offices, and a new health center for all of the student body, faculty, and staff. The 10,000 square foot fitness center will serve the entire Skidmore community and combine state-of-the-art equipment with dedicated spaces for exercise and wellness programming such as yoga, meditation, group fitness, martial arts, and spin. Additional multipurpose gathering areas will be available to support student activities. All work will be managed in close proximity to Skidmore’s existing Williamson Sports Center and Dance Center, which will be protected and monitored throughout the project. The project will be LEED-certified in line with Skidmore’s longstanding commitment to sustainability.
