Project Overview

  • Preservation of Mary Baker Eddy’s final residence to maintain the historical integrity of the circa 1880 home
  • Extensive pre-construction efforts to determine value engineering items and compile project budget
  • Self-performing key trades, including masonry restoration, exterior and window restoration, rough carpentry, finish carpentry and doors, frames and hardware.

The Longyear Museum maintains eight of American religious leader, Mary Baker Eddy’s houses. Each of the eight homes marks a stage of her life and career, with the Chestnut Hill home representing substantial importance as the location from which she launched several publications.

Extensive historic preservation measures were required to address vital infrastructure needs and necessary improvements at the Main, Carriage and Gate Houses. Interior restorations and renovations, exterior repairs such as waterproofing, masonry repair and repointing, window restorations and structural repairs were required throughout the facilities.

Consigli self-performed several of the restoration trades, including masonry restoration, exterior and window restoration, demolition of Carriage House, rough carpentry, finish carpentry and doors, frames and hardware. The existing building automation system (BAS) was replaced to control new mechanical systems. Implementation of the new BAS serviced the three separate facilities on the campus and integrated with the variable refrigerant flow (VRF) and boiler plant, baseboard heating and graphics.
