State of New York, Office of General Services
Project: Capitol Building Restoration
Location: Albany, NY
Architect: Simpson Gumpertz & Heger Incorporated
The State of New York’s historic Capitol Building (1867-1899) was plagued by long-term water infiltration issues, spurring this landmark project to renovate and restore the building to its original glory, inside and out.
- This four-year, multi-phased construction was sequenced so New York State Legislature can remain in session throughout
- The team collaborated with specialty German artisans to procure and install period laylights in interior rooms
- Key trades such as terra cotta and stone masonry were self-performed by skilled Consigli craftsmen
