Project Overview

  • Renovation of a sensitive 24/7 operational Emergency Department (ED)
  • Extensive coordination and logistics planning required to safely manage utility interruptions and crucial access points to the ED
  • Target Value Design approach in collaboration with the design team and design-assist M/E/P subcontractors

Eastern Maine Medical Center continues the modernization of its Bangor, ME campus with a full renovation to the Emergency Department (ED). The project will undergo thorough master planning in order to safely coordinate the project within the operational ED. The project will encompass the fit-out of a newly constructed shell space adjacent to the ED, and renovation to 32 treatment bays and two trauma beds. All work will be performed in the fully operational ED.

The team will work collaboratively with the design team and key subcontractors using a Target Value Design approach in pre-construction. Coordination during the construction phase will ensure that ED operations are unhindered and access points such as the Life Flight elevator and ambulance drop-off are maintained at all times. Strict Infection Control and Interim Life Safety plans will be implemented during construction.
