Henry K. Oliver School
Project Overview
- New K–8 school consolidating elementary and middle school programs for 1,000 students under one roof
- Construction on the site of a former school with selective retention of an existing historic structure
- Sustainability-focused design targeting LEED Silver certification
The new Henry K. Oliver School unifies the district’s elementary and middle school populations within a single campus. The project replaced the existing school while preserving a portion of the historic structure, creating a new learning environment that balances contemporary educational needs with respect for the site’s legacy. Delivered in partnership with the Massachusetts School Building Authority, the project supports long-term educational growth while meeting state funding and performance requirements.
Construction required careful coordination to integrate new construction with the retained historic building fabric while demolishing and rebuilding on an active urban site. Work included sequencing demolition and new construction operations to maintain structural stability and ensure a seamless transition between old and new elements. Sustainability measures were incorporated throughout construction, aligning material selection and building systems with the project’s LEED Gold goals while maintaining schedule to meet the districts needs.
