The Virgin Islands Department of Education required a full replacement of Charlotte Amalie High School after the original campus sustained extensive damage during Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The new multi-building academic campus is designed to support inquiry-based learning through Career and Technical Education and community engagement while incorporating solar power infrastructure. The scope includes five independent structures organized around a central circulation passage, featuring a 750-seat auditorium, gymnasium/safe room, kitchen and cafeteria, three learning forts and a new track and field.
Set in a coastal environment, the design-build project demands durable materials and resilient building systems. The multi-building campus spans across a steeply tiered site and integrates hurricane-resistant structural systems and comprehensive storm-proofing measures. Work is being executed in multiple phases to manage site constraints and support efficient trade partner sequencing.
The project is being managed by the Consigli/Benton Joint Venture.
